How to make realistic paper

I just felt like making a simple tutorial on how easy it is to use Photoshop standard textures and set up some layer styles to make a great realistic piece of paper. So in this tutorial you will see how easy it is to make a realistic paper in Photoshop.

First we need to make the paper shape, so with the rectangle selection tool drag our a nice big shape like a paper shape, then go to select -> modify -> smooth and smooth your selection about 3 px, fill the selection with a default color, (we will change it later).

Now go to the layers panel and double click the layer containing your paper shape to get to the layers styles panel and give it settings as shown below.

Now we will make the holes on the left side, so make a new layer and draw out and ellipse then copy it 4 times and place them as shown below.

Now hold down ctrl and click the layer we just made to load the selection, now you can delete the layer and select our paper, then hit delete so you have 4 holes.

The last thing I did was to use the wrap tool to make the paper not all straight so go to edit -> transform -> wrap and drag some corners but not too much, then it will look bad.

You can now write in what ever text you want, I found a quite nice text looking like it was handwritten, called "viner handwrite".

Hi Hmm, as what I know the paper pattern should be standart in most previous version as well as the new ones. But maybe you need to click the small arrow in the rollout menu for patterns, then you can choose to append or load more patterns in. some of the default patterns are "hidden" a bit.

To make the paper more realistic, you should zoom the paper in a little. To do it, go to the pattern overlay pattern and increase the scale to a good size for your paper. I set mine to 184%.
